The Gulls took a tough hit to graduation with the departures of John Finnerty, Forrest Gardner, and Giancarlo (Despo, his last name is NOT Stanton) Crivelli, but don't look for the defending CJG1 Champions to just fall off the map. With a strong core from last year's team returning, a very promising of newcomers entering, and great depth for a school this size, Beach will once again be in the hunt for the B-Central title and a player in the CJG1 race.
The lineup is set up quite nicely. The returners are not concentrated in any specific area, they're spread throughout the lineup, which will make injecting the new talent into the lineup much easier. Down low, Will Jarvis is back at 106 and is coming off a 19-win sophomore season. Expect a big year out of him down there as he enters his 3rd season as a starter at this weight. Dominick Waldman will do nothing but benefit from last year's schedule and rolling around in the room with Jarvis. He could be primed to have a much improved 2017. Junior Jude Lovgren also returns off the heels of a 16-win sophomore season and figures to hold the 126-slot, while the Gulls have high hopes that freshman Jesse Bowers can come in and make an immediate impact at 120.
Beach has starters returning from 132-145 as well, led by 2-time District medal winner, senior Roddy Rupp. Juniors Danny Savage and Jarod Hoeler round out that stretch. Both finished just under .500 in 2016, but look for them to turn that around this season with another year of experience to their credit.
160 and up has the potential to be a big strength for Beach, as all these weights should be manned by returning letter winners that all finished with winning records a year ago. Among them are senior Jack Baker who had a great post-season run that saw him finish 4th in the Region 6 Tournament. Jimmy Sherlock returns after an 18-win sophomore year, and senior Cody Liguori picked up 13 wins in his 1st year in the lineup. Manning the 220/Hwt slots are Nick Kenmure who went 7-3 while earning valuable frosh experience last season, and Cade Watkins, a 15-bout winner who inherits the heavyweight slot from the graduated Forrest Gardner.
Sure it's tough to lose Finnerty, Crivelli, and Gardner, but Beach has proven time and time again they are more than capable of replacing big talent and continue to win. Once again, they should battle Shore Regional for the B-Central title in a rivalry that has really heated up since the two teams split last year with Shore taking B-Central, while Beach responded by knocking the Blue Devils out of the Sectionals on their way to the title. Make no mistake about it, both teams have that January 18th showdown circled on their calendars. Another date for Beach not to be missed? Friday night January 27th as Beach visits Boro in the latest installment of The Battle of Pt. Pleasant!

The Gulls took a tough hit to graduation with the departures of John Finnerty, Forrest Gardner, and Giancarlo (Despo, his last name is NOT Stanton) Crivelli, but don't look for the defending CJG1 Champions to just fall off the map. With a strong core from last year's team returning, a very promising of newcomers entering, and great depth for a school this size, Beach will once again be in the hunt for the B-Central title and a player in the CJG1 race.
The lineup is set up quite nicely. The returners are not concentrated in any specific area, they're spread throughout the lineup, which will make injecting the new talent into the lineup much easier. Down low, Will Jarvis is back at 106 and is coming off a 19-win sophomore season. Expect a big year out of him down there as he enters his 3rd season as a starter at this weight. Dominick Waldman will do nothing but benefit from last year's schedule and rolling around in the room with Jarvis. He could be primed to have a much improved 2017. Junior Jude Lovgren also returns off the heels of a 16-win sophomore season and figures to hold the 126-slot, while the Gulls have high hopes that freshman Jesse Bowers can come in and make an immediate impact at 120.
Beach has starters returning from 132-145 as well, led by 2-time District medal winner, senior Roddy Rupp. Juniors Danny Savage and Jarod Hoeler round out that stretch. Both finished just under .500 in 2016, but look for them to turn that around this season with another year of experience to their credit.
160 and up has the potential to be a big strength for Beach, as all these weights should be manned by returning letter winners that all finished with winning records a year ago. Among them are senior Jack Baker who had a great post-season run that saw him finish 4th in the Region 6 Tournament. Jimmy Sherlock returns after an 18-win sophomore year, and senior Cody Liguori picked up 13 wins in his 1st year in the lineup. Manning the 220/Hwt slots are Nick Kenmure who went 7-3 while earning valuable frosh experience last season, and Cade Watkins, a 15-bout winner who inherits the heavyweight slot from the graduated Forrest Gardner.
Sure it's tough to lose Finnerty, Crivelli, and Gardner, but Beach has proven time and time again they are more than capable of replacing big talent and continue to win. Once again, they should battle Shore Regional for the B-Central title in a rivalry that has really heated up since the two teams split last year with Shore taking B-Central, while Beach responded by knocking the Blue Devils out of the Sectionals on their way to the title. Make no mistake about it, both teams have that January 18th showdown circled on their calendars. Another date for Beach not to be missed? Friday night January 27th as Beach visits Boro in the latest installment of The Battle of Pt. Pleasant!
