Beach lost five key starters to graduation, including Roddy Rupp (District Champ) and State-qualifiers Jack Baker and Cade Watkins, but as they've shown over the years, they have tremendous numbers to pull from to restock the lineup and remain one of the most consistent programs around, despite being one of the smallest schools in the Shore Conference.
Down low, Will Jarvis provides a strong veteran presence. Jarvis, a District runner-up in 2017, enters the year with 58 career wins, 2nd highest on the team. He's joined by fellow seniors Mike Duffy and Noah Storch, who both got good varsity experience in last season, and promising frosh Kip Lovgren, Riley Simon, and Jason Schulz.
The stretch from 132-160 has some solid talent returning, highlighted by 32-bout winner Jimmy Sherlock, who is the team leader with 60 career wins, District runner-up Jesse Bowers, 25-match winner Jude Lovgren, and 23-bout winner Jason Sherlock. Seniors Danny Savage and Jared Hoeler also have good varsity experience, and there will be a handful of new faces expected to contribute, as well.
Up top, the Gulls must replace Baker, Watkins, and Cody Liguori, who combined for 79 wins last year. Sean Gould is the lone returning starter, but Vincent Storino, Liam Buday, Chris Webber, and Sean Gross have had a taste of varsity experience. Beach will also look to a pair of newcomers junior Santino Giampa and senior Tony Lipari to keep things rolling up top.
Beach will be looking to successfully defend their B-Central crown, with Shore Regional expected to be the top threat. The pair will meet on January 17th. Some other interesting regular season dates include matchups with Lacey and Long Branch, and, of course, the big Friday night rivalry match against Pt Boro on January 19th at Beach. The Gulls will also be aiming for their 3rd consecutive State Sectional Title come February. It should be noted that Manville, the team that Beach beat in the finals each of the past two seasons, has been moved out of the Section this year and up to North Jersey 2.
