NJSIAA TOURNAMENT

Jason Sherlock capped his high school career with a 7th Place finish at this year's State Tournament. It is the first State Placer for the Gulls since John Finnerty took 6th in  2016, and their 7th overall. On his way to the podium, Sherlock set a new school record for wins in a single season, with 39; breaking the record of 37, which he set last season.

Jesse Bowers and Jason Sherlock both won their 2nd District Titles, making them the first wrestlers with multiple District Titles at Beach since Matt Rega in 2006. Down Low (106-132): A youthful group, with experience, consisting of mostly sophomores and juniors. The two juniors here, Kip Lovgren and Riley Simon, are both two-time District Medal Winners. Lovgren is a 2-time District Finalist who placed 6th in the Region last year, while Simon was also in the D23 Finals a year ago, and recorded 27 wins. Also back are a trio of sophomore letter winners in Jonah Bowers, who took 3rd at Districts, Michael Storino, and Teddy Jarahian.

In The Middle (138-160): Jesse Bowers returns in the middle for the Gulls. The senior, who enters the year with 80 career wins, was a District Champion last season, and is a 3-time District Medalist overall. Junior Jason Schultz is another returning District Placer, finishing 3rd at D23 last season. Also back are returning lettermen Macky Liotta, a junior, and senior Jared Kerr, giving Beach more good experience in this section of the lineup.

Up Top (170-Hwt): Beach has a few more big guns in the upperweights, led by senior Jason Sherlock. Sherlock led the team in wins in 2019 with 37. He won the D23 Title at 182, and punched a ticket to AC by finishing 3rd in the Region. Senior Liam Buday is another returning District Champ, who registered 32 wins and placed 6th at the Regions. Two more senior starters return as well in George Kaiafas, a 22-bout winner that took 3rd at Districts, and Noah Ramos, who won 11 bouts last season. Another returning starter is junior Diego Salcedo, giving Beach a very experienced and talented group up top.

2019 saw Beach have their string of three straight seasons as Sectional Champions snapped, as well as their bid for another B-Central crown, by Shore Regional. With almost everyone back from last year's team, the Gulls will be looking to reclaim their titles. They've got a great wealth of talent back  and should be strong contenders to do just that. The two big dates to circle on the calendar for Beach will be Tuesday, January 7th, as they host Shore Regional in the big B-Central matchup, and then there is the Battle of Point Pleasant against crosstown rival Pt Boro at home on Friday, January 24th. The potential is here for the Gulls that if they stay healthy, they can put together a really big season.
